Sveti Vlas vs. Pomorie for year-round living. Which has better winter infrastructure?

My partner and I are looking to relocate to the Bulgarian coast and live there permanently, but we are really struggling to decide between Sveti Vlas and Pomorie. We both work remotely, so reliable internet and open grocery stores, pharmacies, and medical services during the winter months are absolute priorities for us. I've heard that many coastal towns completely turn into ghost towns from November to March. Does anyone have firsthand experience living in either of these places off-season? Which one feels more alive and has better maintained roads and public transport in the winter?

My wife and I spent last winter in Pomorie, and I can honestly say it stays surprisingly alive compared to other coastal spots.

Yes, absolutely! Unlike Sunny Beach or Sveti Vlas which truly turn into ghost towns, Pomorie has a large local population of about 14,000 people who live there year-round.

I have a holiday apartment in Sveti Vlas and I wouldn't dare stay there from November to April. It is completely dead.

Can second that. Vlas is built entirely for tourism. In winter, most hotels close, streets are dark, and the wind off the mountain can be brutal.

Pomorie also has the mud baths and sanatoriums, which means some medical tourism and health infrastructure keeps functioning even in the off-season.

Fiber optic internet is widely available in both towns now, so remote work shouldn't be an issue regarding speed.

True, but in Sveti Vlas power outages happen more frequently during winter storms because of the infrastructure layout in the hillside complexes.

Pomorie is flat, which makes walking around in winter slush much easier than trudging up and down the steep hills of Sveti Vlas.

Don't forget about public transport! Pomorie has regular bus connections to Burgas all year because of commuters.

To be fair, buses run to Nessebar and Burgas from Vlas too, but much less frequently in winter.

If you want a real community feel with open pharmacies, year-round bakeries, and neighbors who actually live there, Pomorie wins hands down.

I actually prefer the nature around Sveti Vlas-having the mountain meet the sea is gorgeous.

It is gorgeous, but beauty doesn't keep you warm or give you open grocery stores in February, does it?

Go rent an Airbnb in Pomorie for November and December to test it out before committing. That's what we did.

That's the best advice anyone could give you. Test it yourself before buying or long-term leasing.
