I've been visiting Sunny Beach during the peak summer months for years and absolutely love the vibe, but I'm seriously looking into relocating there permanently to work remotely. However, everyone keeps telling me it completely shuts down and turns into a ghost town once October hits. Is it really that dead, or are there enough locals, shops, and open restaurants to make year-round living actually enjoyable? I'd love to hear from anyone who has actually spent a full winter there.

Yes, it is a complete ghost town from October to about May. Almost all hotels, bars, and clubs board up their windows.

I lived there year-round for two years, and honestly, if you want peace and quiet, it's actually amazing. But if you're looking for a social life in the winter, forget about it.

To add to what the second user said, you will definitely need a car because public transport gets super limited once the tourist season ends.

There's a couple of Janet supermarkets and a few smaller shops that stay open, plus Nessebar is right next door and has a real year-round population with normal amenities.

Honestly, working remotely from Sunny Beach in winter sounds depressing. The wind off the Black Sea is brutal, and the whole place feels really eerie when it's completely empty.

Totally agree with the last comment. The gray skies combined with shuttered concrete hotels gives off major post-apocalyptic vibes.

Have you considered Burgas instead? It's right down the coast, has a massive expat and local community, and stays totally alive through the winter.

Listen to the people telling you it's dead. I made the mistake of staying through November once and couldn't wait to leave. Even stray dogs outnumber humans.

Rent is dirt cheap in the winter though, if you just want to save money while remote working for a few months before committing to buying property.
